Owner's failure to clean property discussed
In addition to recent trash problems at Riverview Park, there were several other topics covered at Monday's East Penn Township Board of Supervisors meeting.
A few residents again expressed dissatisfaction with what they perceive to still be a lack of progress by property owner Clair Troxell to clean junk from his property. The township has been in litigation on and off with Troxell about the state of his property for more than a decade."It's been a long time," said resident Donna Sheckler, who asked why nothing seems to be able to be done in regard to Troxell."What if I wrote to the governor, see what he would do, or to the president, and see what he would do?" she asked.Chairman Dean Kercsmar said he would welcome that.He said the township is currently doing everything it can to legally deal with the matter and asked Solicitor James Nanovic to comment.Nanovic confirmed that, "We have a tentative agreement with him … and we'll see if he follows through with it."In addition, resident Harvey Keiper said that, in his opinion, recent truck traffic at Troxell's property has become dangerous and that he now also has trailers parked on nearby residential property.Nanovic said the township was told the trailers would only be there for 30 days.Keiper, who is retired, also lamented that other folks who feel likewise cannot make the board of supervisors meeting because it is always held at 5 p.m. on a Monday.Kercsmar said he is willing to hold meetings on Sunday afternoons so others can attend and that he, himself, is "burning vacation time to come to this meeting."In other news, it was announced that fuel bids for July 6, 2014, to July 5, 2015, were opened at 3 p.m. on May 27. Their awarding was then unanimously approved at Monday's meeting. It was also unanimously approved to advertise for the 2014 road project, full-depth reclamation work, with bids to be received by and opened at 2 p.m. on July 1 and acted on at the July 7 meeting. The project includes 2,970 lineal feet on Municipal Road, 3,000 lineal feet on Picnicwoods Road, from Church Hill Road to the township line, and 635 lineal feet on Troxell Road, from Mahoning Mountain Road to the township line.Kercsmar said the township will also be patching on numerous roads throughout the township, "which and how far is dependent on the availability of funds."In addition, it was announced that the township office will be closed June 30 and July 4.Lastly, the board approved the immediate resignation of Planning Commission Vice Chairman Brian Eickhoff.
