Trooper shot during confrontation in Pennsylvania

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Police say a state trooper and a suspect injured in a shootout in central Pennsylvania are both in stable condition following surgery.

A state police spokesman said the trooper went to West Hanover Township in Dauphin County at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday to check out the reported location of a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run.Police allege that a man opened fire, striking the trooper multiple times, and the trooper returned fire, injuring the suspect. He surrendered after state police and local officers surrounded the area.Forty-nine-year-old David Edward Ricker of Harrisburg was charged with first-degree attempted murder, assault on a law enforcement officer and aggravated assault. Court documents don't list an attorney and a listed number for him rang unanswered and then disconnected Monday.
