Coroner: Man found dead at Schuylkill fire scene was shot

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. (AP) - Authorities say a man found dead on the lawn of his burning eastern Pennsylvania home died of a gunshot wound to the chest.

Officials in Schuylkill County said 46-year-old Gerald Hale was found at about 8:30 a.m. Friday in front of the South Manheim Township residence, which was engulfed in flames.

Coroner David Moylan said an autopsy indicated that he died of a gunshot to the right side of his chest, which pierced his heart.

A ruling on the manner of death is pending results of a toxicology test and further investigation by state police.

Lt. Christopher Blugis told The (Pottsville) Republican-Herald (http://bit.ly/T4xpdM ) that the investigation is "in its infancy."

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
