Drunken driving cases heard in court

A Carbon County woman was sentenced to a county prison term after previously pleading to a driving under the influence charge, while other defendants charged with drunken driving entered guilty pleas.

Nanovic II presided.Barracks' incidentRebecca Ann Urban, 46, of Lehighton, was sentenced on charges of DUI and driving while under suspension-DUI related.She previously admitted driving to the state police barracks in Towamensing Township on July 21, 2013, to report an assault incident while under the influence of alcohol. Given a test, the result was 0.09 BAC.On the DUI charge Nanovic sentenced her to serve 10 days to one day less 24 months in the county prison, pay a fine of $500, one year license suspension, get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, zero tolerance on D&A use, and continue her current counseling.On the suspension count she was sentenced to serve 90 days in jail, a fine of $1,000, and will get another year suspension. The jail terms run concurrently.She will begin the jail term at 5 p.m. on June 18.Jason J. Sebelin, 30, of Jim Thorpe, was arrested on Aug. 24, 2013, along Mauch Chunk Street, by Mahoning Township police. Given a test, the result was 0.17 BAC.Nanovic sentenced him to serve five days to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000, one-year license suspension, and get a D&A evaluation.He will begin the jail term at 9 a.m. on June 2.Robert Eckroth, 33, of Albrightsville, was arrested on Jan. 26 along Old Stage Road, in Penn Forest Township by state police at Fern Ridge. Given a test, the result was 0.34 BAC.Nanovic sentenced him to serve 30 days to six months in jail, a fine of $2,500, one-year license suspension, and get a D&A evaluation.He will begin the jail term at 6 p.m. on June 27 and serve it on consecutive weekends.Anna M. Christman, 46, of Sciota, was arrested on Jan. 16 along Route 903 in Penn Forest Township by state police at Fern Ridge. Given a test, the result was 0.17 BAC.A first offense, she was placed on probation for six months, pay a fine of $300, and get a D&A evaluation.John Koposko, 62, of Uniontown, Fayette County, was arrested on Nov. 20, 2013, along Route 903 in Penn Forest Township by state police at Fern Ridge. Given a test, the result was 0.17 BAC.A first offense, he was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300, and get a D&A evaluation.Timothy Q. Parks, 26, of Saylorsburg, was arrested on Feb. 3, 2013, along Little Gap Road, in Lower Towamensing Township, by state police at Lehighton. Given a test, the result was 0.26 BAC.Parks requested a deferral of sentencing and a presentence investigation report be prepared by the adult probation office.Timothy Hugh O'Brien, 25, of Lehighton, was arrested on July 5, 2013, along Route 248 in Franklin Township by state police at Lehighton. Given a test, the result showed the presence of a controlled substance.O'Brien is currently serving a prison term for a parole violation.Nanovic sentenced him to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000, one-year license suspension, and get a D&A evaluation. The term runs consecutive to his current sentence.Alexander Jo Modawar Sr., 32, of Tamaqua, was arrested on Aug. 30, 2013, along Route 209 in Franklin Township. Given a test, the result showed the presence of a controlled substance.Nanovic sentenced him to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000, one-year license suspension, and get a D&A evaluation.He begins the jail term at 9 a.m. on June 13.Mark Allen Solt, 45, of Palmerton, was arrested on Oct. 2, 2013, along Route 248 in Lower Towamensing Township by state police at Lehighton. He refused to submit to a blood test.Sentencing was deferred.Kelly Ann Flowers, 50, of Palmerton, was arrested on Oct. 8, 2013, along Sunny Rest Drive in Lower Towamensing Township by state police at Lehighton. Given a test, the result was 0.16 BAC.Nanovic sentenced her to serve five days to six months in jail, one-year license suspension, a fine of $2,500, and get a D&A evaluation.She begins the jail term at 10 p.m. on May 30 and serve three days, and on June 6 at 10 p.m. and serve two days.Jeffrey R. Kistler, 30, of Lehighton, was arrested on Jan. 30, along Route 209 in Franklin Township by state police at Lehighton. Given a test, the result showed the presence of a controlled substance.Nanovic sentenced him to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000, one-year license suspension, and get a D&A evaluation.He will begin the jail term at 7 p.m. on June 8.John M. Mika Jr., 31, of Weissport, was arrested on March 15 along Fairyland Road in Franklin Township by state police at Lehighton. Given a test, the result was 0.12 BAC.A first offense, he was placed on probation for six months, pay a fine of $300, and get a D&A evaluation.Tammy L. Callahan, 34, of Kunkletown, was arrested on July 28, 2013 along Little Gap Road, in Lower Towamensing Township, by state police at Lehighton. Given a test, the result showed the presence of a controlled substance. She also pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.On the DUI count she was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000, one year license suspension, get a D&A evaluation, and continuing current counseling. She was given credit for 21 days spent in a inpatient rehab program and was immediately paroled.On the possession count she was placed on probation for a year, concurrent to the DUI charge.Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs, which average about $1,000, and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
