A Carbon County woman who led police on a high speed chase entered guilty pleas in the county court on Thursday.

Michele Marie Kobal, 44, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count each of fleeing or attempting to elude police, driving under the influence and a summary charge of reckless driving before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.The incident occurred on April 18 when Franklin Township police observed Kobal failing to stop for a stop sign. She refused to stop when police attempted to pull her over and sped away.The chase continued over a 12 mile stretch during which Kobal ran numerous stop signs with speeds reaching over 100 miles-per-hour.Police finally stopped her after her vehicle ran over stop sticks placed on the road by police. Police also noted she still tried to flee despite the fact that the front tires on her car were flat due to the sticks.She blamed her actions on a drug addiction problem telling Nanovic that she never would have been involved in the incident if it wasn't for her drug use.Nanovic responded, "Do you have any idea how many lives you put in danger?"He added, "You were endangering the lives of many people."On the fleeing charge Nanovic sentenced her to serve two to one day less than 24 months in the county prison, pay a fine of $2,500, and get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment. Kobal, who has been in prison since her arrest, was given credit for 42 days spent in prison to date.On the DUI charge she was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300; and on the summary offense she was fined $200. She must also pay court costs, which average about $1,000, and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole.
