Palmerton Concourse Club donates to area organizations

One Basket Spectacular equals 21 appreciative area organizations.

The Concourse Club of Palmerton held its annual Spring Basket Spectacular in April in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Hall in Palmerton.Each year the club disperses profits from the event to Palmerton area organizations and fire companies."This is just our way to say thank you to each and every one of you for the hard work you do in our community," said Marg Federanich, Concourse chairwoman for the Ways and Means Committee."This is our first year to be included and we were very surprised to be a recipient. We are honored to be chosen by this good organization," said Debbie Balch of Care Net of Carbon County.Care Net is a pregnancy support organization that provides emotional support, referrals to medical care and other related services for mothers-to-be.Larry Ahner, accepting on behalf of the Palmerton Memorial Park, summed up the feeling of all the organizations present."On behalf of all of us here tonight, we say 'Thank You' to the Concourse Club and we appreciate all you do," he said.Accepting the donation for the Meals on Wheels, Darlene Nothstein expressed the organization's appreciation for all the baked goods and holiday decorations the club makes for clients throughout the year.Adding his gratitude, Joe Koma, representing St. Vincent DePaul Society, said, "We have limited resources and to receive something like this is just great. We get donations from the churches but our budget is small. To receive this check is so very helpful to St. Vincent DePaul."Other organizations receiving a donation this year were: Holy Trinity Lutheran Church; Palmerton Library; Palmerton Memorial Park; Domestic Violence; Palmerton Historical Society; CACPAC; Palmerton Municipal Fire Co.; West End Fire Company #2, Aquashicola, Towamensing and Bowmanstown Fire Companies; Palmerton Area Recreation Committee; Palmerton Band; Carbon County Special Olympics; Breast Cancer Research; PA Breast Cancer Coalition; Lehigh Gap Nature Center; and the Palmerton Bandstand Committee.
