Roll call, bell toll for Tamaqua firemen

Sunday evening, members of the Tamaqua Volunteer Fireman's Relief Association gathered at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, East Mauch Chunk Street, to pay tribute to their fallen comrades.

They grouped together on Broad Street and walked somberly through town to the church, where the 85th Annual Memorial Service was held. They were led into church by bagpiper Jim Sweeney of Scranton, who played Loch Ronnach."We all know the sacrifices you and your families make," said Pastor Phyllis Wolford. "Know that your community is with you."Jim Connely read from Isaiah and Thessalonians.Wolford read a roll call of fallen members, with each name followed by a bell toll: Marlin G. Zehner, American Hose Company; Joseph Raggio, East End Fire Company; and William Gasper Sr. and Larry Kabana, South Ward Fire Company.Those three fire companies, along with Citizen's Fire Company, were represented at the service.Tim Lehman, a Tamaqua High School junior, played taps.
