The annual Carbon County Hall of Fame banquet will be held on Sunday, May 25 at Memorial Hall in Jim Thorpe.

He played for Bud Sibbach, Jim Becker and Bill Klotz with the major league Philly's. Drew was coachced on the all-star team by Hanna Morgan. Organized sports took a back seat to working for the Mauch Chunk Bakery after school and Saturdays delivering mouth watering treats from the back of Shine Stermers Royal Blue Chevy Van.Benyo warmed the football bench as a 10th grader, playing only the kick off and returns team. He did earn five varsity letters during his Junior and Senior years at Jim Thorpe High School, two in football where he was named Captain in his senior year. He played offensive and defensive end in 11th grade, and left guard and middle linebacker as a senior. Benyo added two varsity letters in baseball splitting tim ein left and right fields as well as his natural position, first base. The fifth varsity emblem was earned as Jim Thorpe High School's first 180-pound wrestler. Angelo Konstas, Pip Radar, Tony Romano, and Mr. Dan Strouse coached him. Benyo also received the Babe Ruth Sportsmanship award.Upon graduation he joined the United States Air Force where he served from April of 1966 until his honorable discharge in August of 1970. His duty stations included a one-year term at Kinchelow Air Force Base in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and a three-year term of duty on Elemendorf Air Force Base near Anchorage, Alaska. He played both Softball and Flag Football for his Civil Engineering Squadrons in both loations; as well as coaching.Benyo's first volunteer job was with a 5th and 6th grade boys basketball league in Ahcorage. His next job was as the Offensive and Defensive line coach with the Elmendof Cougars. The high scohol team made up of military dependants was co-champions of the Cook Inlet Football conference of 1969.Benyo began teaching at Lehigh Career and Technical Institute in the fall of 1971 and continued until his retirement in July of 2001. He taught the Plumbing and Heating Trades for LCTI as well as Domestic Oil Burning for 12 years at LCCC.His Cross Country Coaching career began in the fall of 1988. He has coached 12 PIAA State Qualifiers including three this past season. His team have won nine boys and five girls Schuylkill League Division III Championships including a stretch in the 90's (1991-1996) of six boys division championships. During Benyo's tenure the Olympian male harriers have had only six losing seasons in 26 years. The overall boys record since 1988 is 167-93.Without question, the 2013 Cross Country Season is one for the record books. Against Division 1 teams the Olympians were a perfect 6-0, and 4-0 agaainst Division II teams. At the Moravian Invitational mett they were the first AA team, and second among all teams. They finished first of nine teams at the Schuylkill Haven and Pine Grove Invites, and first of 20 teams at the Northampton Invitational. At the District XI meet Jim Thorpe finished in second place behind Northwestern Lehigh, but qualified for their first ever trip to States as a TEAM. The TEAM comprised of Christian Fields, Zach Nace, Jake McGeehan, Nathan Fields, Jake Saxon, Jonathan Condly, Dillan Johnson, Jian Gentile, and Ben Saxon finished 12th of the 212 AA teams in Pennsylvania, and two places above Northwestern Lehigh.Coach Benyo was also selected to represent Jim Thorpe Area High School in Seattle, Washington this past summer as one of the top TEN most inspiring high school cross country coaches in the country.Benyo is married to the former Darlene Witt. They have two children, Tim and Dranae, and four grandchildren, Morgan, Allyson, Phinius, and Asher.Keith MillerKeith Miller received the Babe Ruth Award as Outstanding Male Athlete as a senior. Miller had major accomplishments in both high school basketball and baseball for the Olympians.Miller received letters in three years for the basketball team, as he started for the Olympians in his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons. Miller led the team in rebounding during these seasons for the O lympians and was a co-captain during his senior season. He was a member of the 1966 Class C State Silver Medal Team.Miller was excelled on the baseball diamond for the Olympians. He led the team in batting average during his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons. Miller was also top ten in the county in batting average as both a junior and senior.After high school, he continued to play basketball at the collegiate level. Miller started as a freshman, earned four letters, and led the team in scoring all four seasons. He scored over 1,550 points during his career and averaged over 29 points per game during his college tenure.Miller continued to be involved with basketball after college. He was a PIAA Basketball Official from 1971-1996. He had the privilege of officiating Quad A and Double A State Semi-final games. He was also a MAC Collegiate Basketball Official from 1977-1996 and had the privilege of officiating the Championship game between Elizabethtown College and the University of Scranton.Miller continued to be involved in a number of youth sports programs thoughout the years. He has coached soccer, baseball, and basketball. Miller is currently involved with his locacl high school as a scorekeeper for the girl's varsity basketball team, a recorder for the track and field teams, and also does the public announcing for the boys and girls soccer teams.Dale BurnhauserDale Burnhauser graduated from Jim Thorpe Area High School in 1962 and, despite playing only two years of organized football; he was named to the Associated Press All-State Honorable Mention Team at the tackle position at the end of the 1961 season.During his junior year he played defensive tackle and had an outstanding season on defense. His senior season he was elected the team MVP and he played both defensive tackle and fullback, excelling at both positions. In addition to his Al-State selection he was named to the Sporting News Wig Wam Wise Men of America National High School All-American Football Team Honorable Mention. This honor was bestowed upon only 48 of the 15,000 plus high school football players who were elgible for selection. Mr. Burnahauser was recruited by the legendary coach, Ben Schwartzwalder, of Syracuse University.He also played basketball for the Olympians his junior and senior seasons.Dale resides in Jim Thorpe and retired from Dugan & Marcon Company of Bethlehem this year. He has two sons, Dean and Wayne.
