A Schuylkill County driver died on Thursday morning after his vehicle crossed Route 209 and crashed into a tractor trailer rig just outside Port Carbon.

State police at Schuylkill Haven identified the deceased as Scott B. Bedford, 31, of Pottsville, Branch Township.According to troopers Bedford was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu northbound in Norwegian Township about 9 a.m. and negotiating a right curve. For unknown reasons Bedford lost control of his vehicle, which crossed into the southbound lane and collided into a 2000 Volvo tractor with trailer operated by Wilson C. Murray, 45, of West Chester.Bedford, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene by deputy coroner Soctt Clews. Murray, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured. Damages were termed extensive to the Malibu and minor to the truck.Troopers were assisted at the scene by volunteers from the East Norwegian Township, New Philadelphia, and Pottsville fire companies. Port Carbon police also assisted at the scene.Troopers added that there are no charges pending.
