Tamaqua adds three more inductees

The annual Carbon County Hall of Fame banquet will be held on Sunday, May 25 at Memorial Hall in Jim Thorpe.

In 1971 he was named Fourth Team All State and First Team All Anthracite. In 2004, Frank was inducted into the Marian High School Sports Hall of Fame.Frank went on to play basketball at Kutztown University, where he was a four year starter and co-captain for three years. He was the team's leading scorer as a senior and received the Coach's Player of the Year Award in 1975. He was also named to the Kutztown University First Century All Star Team.Frank coached and taught at Northwestern Lehigh for four years, where he turned around a losing program into a winner the second year. In Frank's third year, The Tigers were the number one seed in the playoffs after winning 19 games, a school record. Additionally, Frank coached at Wilson, West Lawn, for four years, where he was the Berks Reading Coach of the Year in 1980. In 1980, the Bulldogs reached the District Quarter Finals, and in 1981, they qualified for the State Tournament for the first time in the history of the school. From 1983 to 1984, he coached as an assistant with Bob Valvano at Kutztown Universty.After 35 years of teaching English, (31 years at Wilson and 4 years at Northwestern Lehigh), Frank has been retired for the last four years. During his teaching career, Frank was included in Who's Who Among America's Teachers in 1994, 1998, 2000, 2004, and 2006. Presently, Frank resides in Blandon, Pennsylvania, with his wife Bonnie, who is a teacher at Sacred Heart School in West Reading, and his son Ryan, who is finishing his master's degree in Exercise Science at East Stroudsburg University.Stan DakostyStan Dakosty graduated from Shenandoah Valley High School in 1979 and Lycoming College in 1974.He has been the head football coach at Marian Catholic High School for the past 37 years with a record of 288-137-3, including six District XI championships, 4 Eastern Conference championships, 1990 PIAA Class A State Championship, and 42 play-off games with a record of 27-15 and 10 titles.Stan's personal achievments include Associated Press Coach of the Year, Head coach of the Big 33 Team (recording a 38-0 win over Maryland), Assistant Coach of the Big 33 Team and East WWest All Star Football game, Head coach of the Schuylkill County All Star football game, Past President of the Pennsylvania State Coaches association, served on the High School Advisory Committee of the American Football Coaches Association, and was inducted into the Pennsylvania State Football Coaches Hall of Fame, the Schuylkill County Football Coaches Hall of Fame and the Jerry Wolman Chapter of the Pennsylvania Hall of Fame.In addition to coaching at Marian, he is currently a Social Studies teacher and Athletic Director at the school.Stan resides in Tamaqua with his wife the former Mary Bonner of Summit Hill, a teacher at St. Jerome Regional School, Tamaqua, and has two children Kathleen and Stan Jr., a daughter-in-law Jess and Grandson, Stan III.Wayne SchickramWayne Schickram is a former high school standout, record holder, and multiple-year 3 sport letter winner and 1978 graduate of Tamaqua Area High School. A quiet leader by example on and off the field aand mat, Schick was and still is respected by his teammates as well as his opponents for his work ethic, dedication, desire and will to succeed...the traits and characteristics that still mean more to him than any numbers or records.A four-year varsity letter winner in football, he became Tamaqua's all-time rushing leader during his senior season ('77), surpassing former multiple sport standout George Barron. He currently ranks third on the all-time list. He remains the only running back in Tamaqua to have two different seasons of over 1,000 yards rushing. Schick has held records in a multitude of categories including Longest Run from Scrimmage, Rushing Yards for a Single Game, 100 Yard Rushing Games (Season & Career), and Yards per Carry. Though he was known mostly for his bruising straightforward running style from the Fullback position, he also holds the quirky distinction of having rushed for, thrown and caught a pass for a touchdown along with scoring one from the defensive side of the ball over the course of his career at Tamaqua.Wayne also excelled on the baseball diamond where he played a staunch 3rd and 1st base. He also was a versatile and champion wrestler gaining victories across a range of weight classes that spanned from 160 pounds through the Heavyweight Class, including the legendary 9-0 shutout victory over a Pine Grove Heavyweight who outweighed Schick by well over 200 pounds.Wayne married his high school sweetheart, Louise Rother and remains happily married to this day, recently celebrating their 35th Wedding Anniversary. He continues to live his "Small-Town" dream in Tamaqua, the town where both of his children, Steven, 35, and Molly, 34, call home as well. Wayne has been teaching Mathematics in the Lehighton School District for 30 plus years, also operating a Sports Bar in Tamaqua, Schick's Cafe Calcutta for over 10 years. Following in the footsteps of several of his most influential coaches such as Walt Ligenza, Harry Fetterman, Paul Dodson, Eric Zerbe, Joe Lapotsky and Frank Zlock, he spent ove 20 years coaching various athletic teams and programs ranging from youth wrestling and little league to Legion Baseball and the Head Football Coaching position. Currently he spends his free time "coaching" his favorite "athletes", his six grandchildren Zowie (13), Lucas (10), Tavio (9), Josie (8), Metta (6), and Ace (4).
