State police at Fern Ridge are investigating a theft by deception incident involving a Monroe County man as the victim.

Troopers said Daniel T. Hazen, of 588 Camp Akiba, in Chestnuthill Township, made contact with an individual via Craigslist to purchase a Samsung Galaxy 4s cell phone for $300.Hazen met with the individual to exchange the phone and the money. Hazen later noticed discrepancies with the phone. He then confirmed with Best Buy stores that the phone was a counterfeit.
