Passenger dies in Lehigh collision

The passenger in a pickup truck was killed when it collided with a tractor-trailer rig.

State police at Fogelsville said the crash occurred about 4:39 p.m. on Monday, March 17, along Route 22, in Upper Macungie Township.Troopers said the pickup truck was driven by a 22-year-old male and the rig by a 58-year-old male. The names of the two drivers are being withheld by troopers.The victim was identified by the county coroner's office as Wayne A. Leibensperger Jr., 21, of Salisbury Township.Coroner Scott M. Grim said an autopsy was performed Tuesday morning and the cause of death was determined to be multiple traumatic injuries.Troopers said the pickup truck was traveling eastbound in the light lane while the combination tractor with trailer was parked on the right shoulder.Troopers said the pickup left the right lane for unknown reasons. The front right of the pickup truck hit the trailer on the left rear.Leibensperger was the front seat passenger in the pickup. He was pronounced dead at the scene by deputy coroner Richard Pender.The two drivers were taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. The pickup driver sustained moderate injuries and the rig driver minor injuries, troopers said.The investigation into the crash is continuing.
