A 10-inch snowfall over the region tied things up badly today and caused many schools to be closed.

Beginning about 4 p.m. yesterday, the snow at first lay on only open ground, roofs, car tops and similar places, but melted as it struck the streets and sidewalks. It was not until nearly 8:30 p.m. that the snow began to lay upon the streets.
