Kern inducted into the MAC Hall of Fame

Susquehanna University recently honored former Pleasant Valley High School basketball and track and field standout Karyn Kern Pinter at halftime of the Susquehanna - Moravian College women's basketball game in recognition of her induction into the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Hall of Fame.

A two-sport athlete in basketball and outdoor track and field at Susquehanna, Kern accumulated the third-most points all-time in Susquehanna women's basketball history, scoring 1,773 points (16.7 ppg), and finished as the program's all-time leading rebounder (1,079 rebounds/10.2 rpg). In addition, Kern ranks first in career field goal percentage (. 597) and blocked shots (196), while posting the fourth highest total in career steals (199).In the 1998-1999 season, Kern was the NCAA Division III national leader in field goal percentage (. 650) and she remains ranked among the top 20 in all NCAA Division III in career field goal percentage.Among Kern's highlights are 34 points scored in her 1997 freshman year against the University of Scranton and 37 points against University of Rochester in 1999. She also pulled down 22 rebounds against Lebanon Valley College as a freshman during the 1996-97 campaign and in the same year set the SU record for most blocks in a single season (67).As a member of the track and field squad, Kern was a four-time MAC champion, capturing the triple jump title three straight years and the long jump crown once, and ranks among the top five in program history in the long and triple jumps.In addition to her athletic accolades, Kern was also named to the Verizon District II College Division Women's Basketball All-Academic Team and was presented the Susquehanna Outstanding Senior Women's Scholar-Athlete Award in 2000.At Pleasant Valley, Kern graduated academically in the top five present of the 1996 graduating class. In her four years, she earned 11 Varsity letters, as a three-sport athlete in cross country, basketball and track and field. She still holds several records in basketball, including single game (38), single season (511) and career (1,361) points and 1,115 career rebounds. She was also a member of the four-time conference champion track and field team, earning numerous individual conference titles in the jumping events.Kern graduated with honors with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Psychology and Corporate Communications from Susquehanna in 2001 and remained in athletics upon her graduation. She worked for over a decade at Kean University (N.J.), where she most recently served as the Director of Student-Athlete Services and Senior Women's Administrator.The daughter of Peter and Carol Kern of Brodheadsville, she resides in Mount Bethel with her husband, Martin, and their two daughters.
