Heffley to seek third term as state rep

State Rep. Doyle Heffley (R-Carbon) announced he will seek re-election to serve the 122nd District in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

"It has been an honor and a privilege to serve our community, and it is my hope that the citizens of Carbon County will allow me to continue serving," Heffley said. "I realize that to be an effective legislator, I must continue to listen and communicate with the hard-working taxpayers for which I represent."Now in his second term in the House, Heffley, a lifelong resident of Carbon County, continues to deliver a common-sense approach to helping solve local and statewide issues. He has introduced more than 20 pieces of legislation and resolutions, which address a variety of issues ranging from property tax reform and veterans' benefits to eliminating benefits for illegal immigrants and reining in government bureaucracies.Heffley serves on the House Transportation, Tourism, Health and Human Services and Game and Fisheries committees. With his broad background in the transportation industry, Heffley was appointed to a subcommittee chairmanship, a branch of the Transportation Committee.In an effort to keep residents updated on legislative issues and answer questions or concerns, Heffley holds regular town hall meetings across the community, as well as telephone town hall meetings. He also hosts annual outreach events, including a Senior Expo, Veterans' Expo, and Drug and Alcohol Awareness Expo.As a steward of taxpayers' dollars, he has kept his promise to refuse per diems and a state vehicle. He donates any annual salary increase to local charities, and has never voted for a pay raise."It is very rewarding for me and my staff to be able to assist hundreds of local residents with state issues through my three district office locations," Heffley said. "There is more work to do, but the process of making Pennsylvania the best place to live, work and raise a family has begun; and it would be an honor to continue serving the residents of Carbon County."Heffley remains an active member of various local organizations, including Sons of the American Legion Post 314, National Rifle Association, Indian Mountain Rod and Gun Club, Beaver Run Rod and Gun Club, Nesquehoning Conservation Club, and F&AM Lodge 621 in Lehighton. He also served as the past chairman for the Carbon County Republican Committee.Heffley is the son of Larry and Roberta Heffley of Lehighton. He and his wife, Kellie, have been married for 17 years and reside in Lower Towamensing Township with their daughters, Elizabeth and Angela.
