No state funds for PV pool project

Panther Valley School Board doesn't anticipate any state funding to help with its $5.8 million construction project.

The board last week voted 8-1 to approve the "self-certification application for non-reimbursable construction project."Board member Irene Genther was the sole opposing vote. The self-certification application, if approved by the state, would be submitted instead of a PlanCon.When a school district undertakes a major construction project and seeks reimbursement from the state, a process known as PlanCon is initiated. PlanCon, an acronym for Planning and Construction Workbook, is a set of forms and procedures used to apply for reimbursement. The project involves removing the swimming pool at the high school and converting the space into classrooms.Grades 4, 5, and 6 will move to the existing middle school. The new classrooms will house grades 7 and 8. Grades 9, 10, 11, and 12 will remain in the existing high school.A presentation by the architect for the project The Architectural Studio of Emmaus, indicates the bidding project for construction could begin this month. If all goes as planned, the construction will be completed in May of 2015 and the new classroom setup would take effect in the 2015-2016 school year.
