Man injured in West Penn crash

One man was sent to the hospital Tuesday evening following a two-vehicle crash at Leiby’s Intersection in South Tamaqua. According to West Penn Township Police Chief Brian Johnson, Sonia Mann, 43, of Stroudsburg was driving north on SR309 in a 2012 Honda Civic and attempted to make a left turn on to Clamtown Road.

A 2010 Toyota pick up truck, operated by John Shorten Jr. of Lehighton, was traveling north at the same time and entered the intersection as Mann began turning. Neither driver was injured, although a passenger in the Mann Honda, Charles Mann, was treated at the scene by personnel from the Penn Mahoning Ambulance and Lehighton ALS. He was transported to St. Luke’s Miners Campus in Coaldale.Shorten’s daughters, ages 9 and 5, were also reportedly uninjured. Mann’s vehicle was towed from the scene by Nothstein Towing, while Shorten’s truck was towed by Soley’s Garage. Also assisting at the scene were personnel from the West Penn Township Fire Company and West Penn Fire Police.
