State Rep. Doyle Heffley (122nd District) held a town meeting Thursday evening prior to the board of supervisors meeting in Kidder Township.
Speaking to a packed house of township residents, Heffley opened the floor to questions. The majority of the open discussion centered on the ongoing drug crisis in the district. Heffley talked about the increase in drug abuse and arrests related to illegal and prescription drugs."The drug problem is taxing our systems, police, mental health and a good 20 percent of our prison population is incarcerated on drug-related offenses," Heffley said.He also discussed a bill that is before the State Senate to privatize liquor stores in Pennsylvania."I am all for it," said Heffley. "The private sector has done a great job of controlling alcohol distribution in the past. Restaurants and bars already distribute alcohol in Pennsylvania."Heffley claims that the state is losing in excess of $400,000 in tax revenue yearly due to residents purchasing alcohol in neighboring states.
