Mom of abducted girl gets prison for meth lab

A man and a woman from Palmerton will serve time in Northampton County Prison after they were caught making meth in a car.

Richard E. Walterick III, 30, on Tuesday received a nine-to-18-month sentence after he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to operate a meth lab. His co-defendant, Emily A. Fatzinger, 22, received six to 23 months in jail after she admitted to the same conspiracy charge in a separate hearing.According to court documents:The pair were caught during a traffic stop in Hanover Township, Northampton County, early on Oct. 15 on Bath Pike and Jaindl Boulevard after Colonial Regional Police saw a car driving with a headlight out.Walterick and Fatzinger were passengers in the vehicle. At that time, police discovered a plastic bottle used to make the drug, along with precursor chemicals. The drugs and paraphernalia were located where the pair had been sitting. As part of his sentence, Walterick will be on probation for two years after he completes his prison time.Fatzinger's 4-year-old daughter was abducted in December in a case that sparked a statewide Amber Alert. The child was safely located after she was abducted by her father Timothy Simcsuk. Simcsuk was later captured and arrested. At that time, Simcsuk told police he considered killing the child, and then himself, before he surrendered. He also told police he intends to come back and take the child again as soon as he is released, according to court records.Simcsuk was scheduled to have a preliminary hearing this morning before District Judge William Kissner of Palmerton on a charge of interference with custody of children. He has been in Lehigh County Prison in lieu of $250,000 straight bail since that time.Custody of the child was originally granted to Fatzinger on June 11, 2010, by the Carbon County Court of Common Pleas.Scheduled visitation had been granted to Simcsuk, who is the child's biological father. However, Simcsuk had fled the state to avoid arrest on a bench warrant issued in Carbon County for a probation violation for DUI.On Oct. 17, Emily Fatzinger granted temporary guardianship of her child to her mother, Lisa Fatzinger, while she is serving in Northampton County Prison on the drug conviction.
