The visitors center inside the Old Mauch Chunk Train station in Jim Thorpe will not be open for guests this weekend.

Carbon County Commissioner Wayne Nothstein, chairman, said Friday that some outlets, cable and other necessary electrical items are still needed before everything is ready in the station.Originally, the renovation project was supposed to be completed by this weekend.The new expected reopening of the center is March 1.People visiting Jim Thorpe this week for the borough's Winterfest will be able to use the restrooms inside the station.Renovations on the Pocono Mountain Visitors Bureau's visitor center began in January.The renovations included repairing and refinishing the hardwood floor; reconfiguring the current help desks inside the center; painting; installing video kiosks and updated brochure racks; and updating the town's timeline display.The floor work was completed by Paul Phillips Hardwood Flooring of Hanover Township, at a cost of $7,190. Painting of the interior walls were done by Dan Bell of Dan's Painting, Jim Thorpe at a cost of $5,175.During the project, a temporary visitors center has been set up inside Pocono Biking, located across the street in Hazard Square, and has been open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.The former train station is owned by Carbon County and the project is being completed as a joint effort between the county and Pocono Mountain Visitors Bureau.
