The following is a list of presidents and presidential candidates who have visited Lehighton.• Aug. 11, 1905 - "Teddy" Roosevelt stopped at the Packerton Shops where 3,000 men greeted him. He spoke to the men and "gave everyone the glad hand."• Oct. 21, 1911 - Governor of New Jersey Woodrow Wilson made a Saturday stop at the Packerton yards where he gave a brief speech.He was accompanied by James I. Blakeslee, a Lehighton resident who later became Wilson's Assistant Postmaster General.• Oct. 26, 1914 - Ex-Republican President Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt (1901-1909) stopped in the Lehigh Valley Packerton Yards.• April 16 and Nov. 16, 1917 - William Jennings Bryant, a Democratic presidential candidate in 1896 and 1900, spoke at Derr Hall in Zion Church. Bryant at that time was known as the best lecturer in the world.• Sept. 10, 1952 - Richard Nixon, the Republican vice presidential candidate, arrived in Lehighton on his special train and was greeted by Mayor William Hummel.• Oct. 29, 1952 - Presidential candidate, Governor of Illinois, Adlie Stevenson was at the Central Railroad Station at 11:54 this morning.
