The owners of Boyer's IGA, Tamaqua, want to purchase and annex a portion of land from Mady Real Estate Co., which owns the car wash in front of the grocery store.

During a meeting Monday the venture was discussed by the involved parties and members of the Tamaqua Planning Commission, who voted to continue the discussion until next month's meeting, giving the purchaser time to iron out a punch list of plan requirements.The transaction, a subdivision from one property and an annexation to another, seems simple but is complicated by a number of existing easements, which must be clarified on the ensuing deeds.Attorney Joe Zerbe and professional land surveyor Diane Lenick, representing Boyer's IGA, said they'd complete the checklist items and present the completed plan to the commission during the March 10 meeting.Zerbe said the portion to be annexed, which is the grassy area of the car wash property, could be used for overflow parking in the future, or to provide space which would allow for a possible addition to the store at sometime in the future.Christine Troxell of Barry Isset Associates, serving as the borough's engineering firm for the project, presented the checklist, which included:• Showing the location of water and sewer lines on the plan.• Clarification of the existing easements.• Detailing all the property setbacks and total acreage.• Including the required signatures.Other businessIn other business, the board discussed the need to fill the two vacancies on the board, which have existed for about two years.Any Tamaqua resident interested in serving on the Planning Commission should contact the board through borough hall.Currently the Planning Commission should have seven members, but there are only five. A seven-member board cannot take action at the meeting without having four members present, and lack of a quorum has sometimes held up the progress of plans, Chairman Tony Rodrigue said.Before the meeting, the commission reorganized, keeping members in the same positions. Rodrigue will continue as chairman with Tim Stahl serving as vice-chairman. Pamela McCullion, will serve as secretary.Rounding out the board are Josh Esposito and Mark Conville.
