A shoplifting incident in Tamaqua on Saturday, Feb. 1, earned a New Ringgold man more than he expected.

Police were dispatched to My Family Mini Mart, 401 W. Broad St., at 3:14 p.m. for an open 9-1-1 call. A disturbance could be heard in the background.At the scene police spoke with witnesses who said a man identified as Christopher Lee Hill, 26, whose last known address is 47 Mush Dahl Road, had walked into the store and began picking up items. Some of the items, according to the report, were then hidden in Hill's clothing.When one of the patrons told the clerk about the hidden items Hill began a physical confrontation with the witness. The two men struggled and crashed into the front door, causing damage to the unit that closes the door. The witness was struck in the face and head and his glasses were broken in the shoving match.Hill later allegedly threatened to beat the witness with a baseball bat.He was charged with simple assault, making terroristic threats, disorderly conduct, retail theft, and criminal mischief. He was arraigned before on-call District Judge Anthony Kilker, of Shenandoah, who set bail at $15,000 straight cash bond. Hill was lodged in the Schuylkill County prison in Pottsville.
