Second arrest made in road rage incident

Charges have been filed against the Nesquehoning man who was injured in a recent fight with a Jim Thorpe man.

According to court docket papers, Kirt D. Adams, 57, faces charges of simple assault and stalking, both misdemeanors; and harassment, a summary offense, in connection with a physical altercation with Ryan R. Saunders II, 18, of Penn Forest Township, Jim Thorpe that occurred last month.A preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m., Feb. 26, before Magisterial District Judge Edward M. Lewis. He is free on $20,000 unsecured bail. The charges stem from a fight between Adams and Saunders that occurred just after 3 p.m. on Dec. 18.According to an earlier affidavit, Lehighton Police Officer Matthew Arner was dispatched to a fight on the 300 block of North Second Street in Lehighton. At the scene were three males and two females. One of the men, later identified as Adams, was "bleeding extensively from the facial area."Arner's investigation led to allegations that the fight occurred because of a road rage incident, where Adams, who was following Saunders in a vehicle, honked his horn after the light changed while stopped at the intersection of Broadway and Susquehanna streets in Jim Thorpe.Conflicting reports were given to police following the incident, the affidavit notes. Saunders told police that Adams tried to run them off the road; while Adams claims Saunders followed him to Lehighton where the confrontation occurred.Saunders was charged earlier this week with aggravated assault and conspiracy - aggravated assault, both felonies; as well as misdemeanor charges of simple assault, unsworn falsification to authorities and corruption of minors; and arraigned before Lewis. He is free on $40,000 unsecured bail.
