Schuylkill County driver facing DUI

A Schuylkill County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence and other counts following an incident that occurred in Jim Thorpe on Dec. 6, 2013. Jim Thorpe police released a report on the incident.

Police said about 6:14 p.m. they received a dispatch for an accident at 180 W. Broadway involving two vehicles and that one of the drivers was attempting to leave the scene.While en route police received a report of a second crash in the area of 56 W. Broadway. Upon arrival police observed a 2002 Hyundai Sonata sedan with severe damage parked in the center of the road with no driver. Witnesses told police a large white male had exited the vehicle and fled.Also at the scene officers found a red Ford Ranger with severe damages. The driver was identified as Ashley R. Hartman, of Jim Thorpe. She was complaining of back pain.Police then went to 180 W. Broadway and found Timothy Handwerk, of Summit Hill, on scene with severe damages to his vehicle, a white Ford Ranger. He also complained of back pain.Police then returned to 56 W. Broadway where a witness said the driver of the Hyundai was hiding behind a vehicle nearby.Police found Trevor Smoll, 46, of 47 Revelation Drive, New Ringgold. He was found to be under the influence and was arrested.He was transported to the Lehighton hospital for a blood test. The test result showed a .19BAC plus the presence of a controlled substance.Smoll was charged with three counts of DUI and multiple motor vehicle code violations.
