LCCC hosts open house at new Jim Thorpe site

Lehigh Carbon Community College will host an open house on Tuesday.

"Meet the Cougers" night will be from 6-8 p.m., at its new Carbon site,located at 1100 Center St., Jim Thorpe, which is also the former west wing of Jim Thorpe Area High School.Visitors can see the new classrooms; meet faculty and learn about the new, expanded programs that the college will be offering. The new campus will officially open for operation on Jan. 10, 2014.The new site has its own LCCC entrance; smart classrooms; Wi-Fi Internet access; a large, fully furnished student lounge for students; an outdoor veranda; computer lab and off-street parking at the high school.The LCCC Carbon site was formerly located along Locust Street in Nesquehoning. Staff moved the campus to its new location over the last two weeks.LCCC has had a presence in Carbon County since 1994, when its campus was located the Carbon County Vocational Technical School in Jim Thorpe, now known as Carbon Career & Technical Institute.LCCC moved to the Nesquehoning site in 1999.More than 2,000 students from Carbon County attend one of LCCC's six campuses for credit and noncredit classes.
