Palmerton library gearing up for annual art show

The Palmerton Area Library is getting ready to host its annual Art Show and Lunch from noon until 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19 in the Knights Gallery, upstairs in the library at 402 Delaware Ave., Palmerton.

The show and lunch is sponsored by the Friends of the Library and features soup, salad, homemade bread, sandwiches, desserts and drinks.Tickets will be available at the library on Jan. 2.Artists interested in displaying and/or selling their artwork at the show should contact the library at 610-826-3424 as soon as possible for details.Computer classesComputer classes will be offered again in the spring including beginners, advanced (Excel and Word), and digital camera. Classes are limited to 12 students per sessions and fill up quickly. Those interested in any of these classes should call the library now to get their name on the waiting list.Fund driveThe Library Annual Fund Drive is in full swing. You can donate online by going to the library website at

www.palmertonarealibrary.com.The library now offers free digital magazines for you to download onto your computer or mobile device. Check out the library website and click on the Zinio icon for instructions. The magazines are free and stay on your device until you delete them, so there is no need to return these items and there are never any fines. Hundreds of popular magazines are available.If you have questions about using this service, stop in the library and the staff can assist you.Homework HelpersHomework Helpers will continue after the holidays. Homework help is available for kids in kindergarten through sixth grade on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:15-4:15, and for students in grades 7-8 on Tuesdays from 2:45-3:45. Volunteer tutors will help your child with his or her homework and other assignments. This program is free but parents must register their children ahead of time.The library is open Mondays and Tuesdays from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m., Wednesdays; Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.; and Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.Check the website for a full list of activities and services.
