Man headed to court on sex assault charges

Charges against a Palmerton man accused of the indecent assault of a child have been bound over for court.

Joseph Bauer Jr, 70, of Palmerton, was scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Wednesday before District Judge William Kissner of Palmerton.Instead, Bauer waived his right to a hearing, and will appear before the Carbon County Court of Common Pleas on Jan. 30 for a pretrial status conference.Bauer has been charged with two counts of indecent assault, and one count of corruption of minors.He remains free on $75,000 unsecured bail.According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Trooper Erin Snyder of the Pennsylvania State Police Lehighton barracks:On March 26, Snyder was contacted by a caseworker with the Carbon County Children and Youth Service, who said that she was assigned to investigate a report of sexual abuse involving a 12-year-old female victim, according to the affidavit.The victim reported that while staying at Bauer's residence, Bauer climbed into bed with her and touched her over a two-year period while she was between the ages of 8-11. The victim said she would pretend to be asleep when these incidents occurred, according to the affidavit.
