Saying 'Yes to the Dress'

An area bride's search for the perfect dress will be aired at 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, on the TLC show "Say Yes to the Dress."

Dana Stellar Holmes, 25, a graduate of Northwestern Lehigh High School, will be featured in the episode "A Mother's Touch." The show tells how she traveled last November to New York City to shop at Kleinfeld Bridal after being invited to the show. The title for the episode comes from the way she shared photographs and loving memories of her mother throughout the show. Her inspiration for her dream wedding dress came from her parents' wedding album, which she brought with her to Kleinfeld. Her mother, Deborah, passed away in 2010.Holmes found that her dream also included a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to share that special moment with her father, Tony Stellar.Holmes met her fiance, Patrick, at Lehigh University when she was on a recruiting trip for track and field/cross country. The couple hit it off and began dating soon afterward. He proposed Sept. 13, 2012.The episode shows the progression of her selection until she finds the perfect wedding dress."It was like my mom was with us all day," Dana commented. "Even the crew felt like they knew Deborah Stellar."Dana described her mother's wedding dress as elegant and classy, two of the things she wanted in her own gown. She had watched enough episodes of "Say Yes To The Dress," to know that she would be able to find her dress at Kleinfeld Bridal. So after getting engaged, she decided to apply to become a participant.Within a little more than an hour of saying "Yes," she answered some questions, attached a photo of herself and hit the send button.A week later, she received an email letting her know she was selected to be on the show. She was asked to come to New York for a taping. Her father provided a limousine ride to the store. Accompanying them were family and friends, including her Aunt Patsy Schultheis, Jill Stoelzl and Alyssa Jones."Aunt Patsy is always there for the family," Holmes said. "Jill was my mom's best friend and was able to represent my mom's opinions. Alyssa and I met in grade school."Another member of the group and longtime pal of Holmes', Ashley Madonick, lives in New York and met the limo there. Both Jones and Madonick were attendants in the Sept. 21, 2013 wedding. While the filming took about six hours, it only took Holmes two hours to try on 14 dresses. Every time she walked out, the cameras rolled."The best part was when I chose my gown," Holmes said. "We all felt that it was the perfect dress to say yes to."As Holmes was standing on a pedestal in her soon-to-be wedding gown, she felt a tap on her shoulder. The designer of the dress was standing there, offering other designs as well, but Holmes knew what she wanted."So, are you saying yes to the dress?" her dad asked her."Yes," she said. Many people have asked if the gown was free, but Holmes says it was not; however, the designer did give her a discount. The designer made a sketch of Holmes in the gown, which he autographed and presented to her. After her busy and rewarding day at Kleinfeld Bridal, Holmes also had a busy evening."I had to rush home to host a dinner and evening of fun," Holmes said. "I was going to ask my friends if they would be my bridesmaids."Holmes said that the wedding took place at her father's backyard. Throughout her special day, cameras rolled."We had a big wedding, with nine attendants," she said. "It was awesome. It was a beautiful day, definitely the best day of my life."The bride says she is very happily married."My husband is a great guy and a great husband."Holmes doesn't know if the segment to be aired on Nov. 1 will include clips of her wedding."Sometimes the show includes the wedding and sometimes they have that in a later episode," she said. "We'll all be watching to see if I catch a glimpse of the wedding or not."The newlyweds reside in Philadelphia.TIMES NEWS reporter Gail Maholick and Barb Schafer, special to the Northwestern Press, contributed to this story.
