The state House of Representatives expects to consider a bill today that creates a database known as the Pharmaceutical Accountability Monitoring System, or PAMS. The bill is aimed at reducing prescription drug addiction by establishing an electronic database of those who obtain prescription drugs that are regulated by the Controlled Substances Act.

The bill would require those licensed to dispense those prescription medications to report the following information to the database, maintained by the state Department of Drug and Alcohol programs:The full name of the prescribing practitioner.Prescriber Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration number.Date the prescription was written.Date the prescription was dispensed.Full name, date of birth, gender and address of the person for whom the prescription was written and dispensed.The National Drug Code.Dosage quantity and days' supply.Name of the pharmacy or other entity dispensing the controlled substance.Dispensing entity's DEA registration number and National Provider Identifier.Source of payment for the prescription.Even veterinary dispensers would have to comply, submitting:Pet's name.Owner's name.Pet's or owner's address.Practice's name.Dispensing veterinarian's name.DEA license number.Date the prescription was written.Date the prescription was dispensed.Name of the controlled substance.Quantity and strength of the medication.Dosage and frequency of the medication.
