Tamaqua Anthracite Model Railroad Club will be presenting their large model train display Sunday as part of the Tamaqua Heritage Day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The display is staged on two raised sections, which includes a 20-by-40 and 10-by-20 foot model display. This year's larger display will also incorporate over 3,000 feet of track and upto two dozen models engines and over 130 model cars.Member John Shucavage said that many of the featured model trains represent real-size trains that used to run through Tamaqua in years past. He added that the club's display has about 20 bridges.Frank Huegel, club president, said their display is located across the street from the Tamaqua Elks Lodge on Nescopec Street. He added that they are located in the downstairs of the old A & P Grocery Market, which closed in the 50's or 60's. The club was chartered in January of 1993."I've been a hobbyist most of my life," said Heugel, who said he remembered painting small fruit cans to make props for their display. "My father was also into model trains at home. I still have his old 027 Lionell freight train."
