A Barnesville man was among 10 machine delivery drivers hired by the Schuylkill County Commissioners at a public meeting Wednesday at the courthouse in Pottsville to deliver the electronic voting machines to the 129 precincts for use on election day, November 5.

Hired were:Walter Taylor, Barnesville, $200 fee; Joseph Condrady, McAdoo, $210; Kenneth Breisch, Schuylkill Haven, $210; Kenneth Eichenberg, Minersville, $170; Jason Frantz, Girardville, $160; William Klinger, Frackville, $160; Thomas Kurtek, Pottsville, $140; Walter Leashefski, Orwigsburg, $220; Wayne Robbins, Frackville, $210; and Kurt Yoder, Hegins, $200. The fees are based on number of machines delivered and distance traveled. The machines are stored in Pottsville.Approval was also given Election Director Frannie Brennan to hire six or more individuals to serve on the computing board which makes the official count of votes that will be cast in the general election. The computing board begins its task on the Friday after the election and the counting is done in the election bureau in Pottsville. The total vote released the night of the election is an unofficial vote but is usually accurate.The only change are the write-in votes cast which cannot be counted by the machines but are counted by the computing board. The county salary board set the salary for the computing board members at $70 per day.Brennan called attention to remaining special dates prior to the election.The last day to register to vote for those not registered is now past. It was Monday, Oct. 7. The last day for applying for an absentee ballot is Monday, Oct. 28, and the must be in the office of the election bureau in Pottsville no later than Tuesday, Oct. 29.Brennan reminds those voting by absentee that the ballot must be in her office prior to 5 p.m. on Oct. 29 and not a postmark. The polling places will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Election Day.Join statewide IDThe commissioners approved a memorandum of understanding on behalf of the probation department and entered on behalf of County Commissioners' Association of Pennsylvania (CCA)) and the county probation department to participate in Criminal Justice Unified Case Management (CJ-UCM) Program developed by CCAP to implement and maintain a unified criminal justice case management system within and between counties.John Richards, chief probation officer, explained that CCAP is the program manager and will coordinate all efforts on behalf of Schuylkill County and the memorandum outlines the roles and responsibilities of each party as well as the requirements needed to participate in this program. Payment of operation of the program in the county will come out of the the probation budget's offender's supervision fee, which is a $50 fee paid by a defendant for each month the defendant is on probation or parole.A number of contracts were approved by the commissioners:A contract was entered with United Prison Equipment Company, Green Lane, Montgomery County, on a two phase maintenance project.Phase one, furnish and install three hollow metal medical doors in the Schuylkill County Prison which includes security glass and is for the purpose of passing food to the inmates; and also install four retro fit food passes and hardware in existing holding cell doors. The total cost is $12,460. The second phase is preventive maintenance on 18 sliding devices at a cost of $3,200.A three year contract was renewed with TKO Cleaning Services, LLC, Pottsville, to provide cleaning services for the courthouse at a cost of $237,000.A three year contract was entered with Antz Energy Systems, Shenandoah, for duck work zoning upgrade for the 9-1-1 Communication building located on North Centre Street in Pottsville, at a cost of $28,945.Action taken on personnel matters were as follows:Jesselyn Heaps, Schuylkill Haven, was hired as a per diem investigator for the public defender's office at $19.06 per hour.The commissioners were informed by department heads of other office personnel changes.• The coroner's office reported the resignation of Salvador Ingaglio, Auburn, as a deputy coroner and investigator.• The 9-1-1 Communication Center reported Gary Perna Jr., Kelayres, Kline Township, resigned as a telecommununicator.• The Domestic Relations Department reported the resignation of Frank McDonough, Orwigsburg, as an enforcement officer.• The court administrator's office reported hiring Kathryn Choman, Hanover Township, as a court reporter at $19.72 per hour.
