Local Girl Scout Rachael Paisley has a number of Breast Cancer Awareness events scheduled in conjunction with her Girl Scout Gold Award project. The events include Pink Hair Day; a poster contest; a Pink Light Walk; and the creation of a brochure that is specific to inflammatory breast cancer.For Pink Hair Day, Rachael has enlisted the help of stylist Megan Phillips, who will add a pink hair extension to participants' hair. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Oct. 5, at Lifestyles Salon, 250 East Broad St., Tamaqua.There are no fees associated with Pink Hair Day.The Pink Light Walk event will begin at 5 p.m. at the Bungalow Pavilion on Oct. 20. There is no registration fee. Supporters and participants will be able to purchase T-shirts prior to the event. pinkribbons101@gmail.com.Adult day careThe Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care Center has a number of activities planned for the month of October, including celebrating Halloween with a costume party on Oct. 31.Other special days this month include: Oct. 4, foot doctor visit; Oct. 7, crafting balloon spider webs; Oct. 10, entertainment; Oct. 15, crafts day; Oct. 16, sing-along with Audrey Christ; Oct. 23, Salvation Army service; Oct. 25, movie day; Oct. 30, pumpkin treats; Oct. 31, visit from St. Jerome's kindergarten class.In addition to weekly sing-alongs and social games, hair styling and manicure services are available. Broad St., will sponsor a "Blessing of Animals" event on Oct. 6. Upcoming activities will include: Oct. 9, program will feature a Summer in Taipei, Taiwan, bell practice and chair stretching; Oct. 15, bus leaves at 9:30 a.m. for the Diakon Senior Expo at the Fairlane Village Mall; Oct. 23, trip to Penn's Peak for a Neil Diamond tribute; Oct. 30, Halloween celebration with pot luck lunch.The Older and Bolder group's regular sessions are held from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays. The regular meetings include a light lunch.Calvary EvangelicalThe Rev. Dr. Edward Bean will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. The service will include Holy Communion. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, a time of praise, worship and Bible study will be held at 6:30 p.m.An hour of prayer and praise is held at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays.
