A Jim Thorpe woman has produced two videos to promote an upcoming charitable event.

Joan Morykin, a Lehigh Valley native, produced a 30-second and 60-second video to help generate awareness for the Saturday, Oct. 5 Walk to End Alzheimer's, set for Saturday at 10 a.m. at Mauch Chunk Lake Park, Lentz Trail, Jim Thorpe.The videos represent Morykin's re-emergence into the field of video production.Morykin worked for the news agency Reuters in New York City for ten years, first as a producer/director for the division that produced health and medical news and then serving as director of Internet systems development.Morykin left NYC in 2003 with her husband and infant daughter and moved to Jim Thorpe, where they bought a 15,200-sq.-ft. dilapidated old factory and fixed it up to include gallery space and a full service restaurant."With the recent death of two relatives in NYC and all of the time/energy spent handling the estates, we decided we needed to take a break from the day-to-day operations of the restaurant business and take a hiatus to focus more on artistic projects," Morykin told the TIMES NEWS."I also felt a real pull to go back to video production and decided to take a documentary film making class with WHYY in Philadelphia and I produced an eight-minute long film about my husband and his love of the dictionary."That rekindled my love of video production and documentary filmmaking and I connected with Kathy Ruff who asked me if I would like to produce a public service announcement for her organization and I was thrilled to do it," she said.The 30-second video can be viewed on Youtube at:
