Four area residents enter guilty pleas

Four Tamaqua area residents were among 13 defendants who entered guilty pleas to criminal charges in Schuylkill County court and were sentenced by Judge John E. Domalakes as follows:

Lukas Smith, 21, last known address 110 Market St., pleaded guilty to assaulting a nurse at St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale, and possession of drug paraphernalia.He was placed on probation 24 months, and ordered to pay $50 to Criminal Justice Enhancement Account (CJEA). On a charge disorderly conduct was fined $100. He was cited by Coaldale Patrolman Scott Cramer.Joshua Dewire, 24, of 66 Holland St., pleaded guilty to simple assault and was placed on probation 24 months, pay $50 to CJEA, and cannot have any contact with Linda Matousek, 634 E. Broad St., shall not possess or consume alcohol and must undergo a mental health evaluation. On two counts of harassment and one count of public drunkenness he was fined a total of $300 and costs. Dewire was cited by Tamaqua Patrolman Karl Harig.Christopher Fetter, 24, of 315 Penn St., pleaded guilty to delivery of a controlled substance on Cedar Street, was sentenced to serve three to 23 months in the county prison and may participate in the work release program. The sentence begins Friday, Oct. 11, at 9 a.m. with credit of spending 25 days in the county prison, pay $100 to Substance Abuse Education (SAE) fund, $50 to CJEA, make restitution of $113 to Bethlehem Regional Lab, and $50 to Schuylkill County Drug Task Force.Jennifer Lynne Wood, 21, of 110 Market St., Tamaqua, pleaded guilty to criminal mischief to property in Park Place, Mahanoy Township, and was placed on probation for 12 months, and pay $50 to CJEA fund. Wood was cited by Trooper Edward Sanchez.Other pleasTimothy H. O'Brien, 24, of 272 Third St., Coaldale, pleaded guilty to possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and was placed on probation 12 months, and pay $50 to CJEA fund. He was cited by Coaldale Patrolman Scott Cramer.Richard J. Armbruster, 57, of 1406 Iron St., Bethlehem, pleaded guilty to possession of drug paraphernalia when stopped for going through a red light on Claremont Avenue in Rush Township, was placed on probation 12 months, pay $100 to SAE fund, $50 to CJEA, and perform 20 hours of community service. Armbruster was cited by Patrolman Adam Sinton.Megan Cieniawa, 29, Hazleton, pleaded guilty to simple assault of boyfriend, John Krell, and McAdoo Officer Stephen Homanko, and was placed on probation 23 months, and pay $50 to CJEA. On a charge of resisting arrest received a concurrent 23 months probation sentence.Jeffrey Maurice Funderburk, 51, Shenandoah, pleaded guilty to driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol and was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in the county prison, fined $1,000, pay $300 to SAE fund, $50 to MCARE fund, $60 to Schuylkill Medical Center (SMC), attend driving safety school, perform 10 hours of community service, and driver's license suspended 12 months. On a summary charge of driving at an unsafe speed was fined $25 plus $50 costs. He was cited by Shenandoah Patrolman Joseph Hahn III.Debra Lynn Hughes, 58, Wilkes-Barre, pleaded guilty to criminal conspiracy to commit retail theft and was placed on probation three years, pay $50 to CJEA, $50 to district attorney for bench warrant, and make restitution of $1,166 to Wal-Mart Store, Hometown, for theft of five televisions. Hughes was cited by Rush Patrolman Bradley John Hess.Karl Kenneth Kimmel, 34, Schuylkill Haven, pleaded guilty to endangering welfare of a child and was sentenced to serve three to 23 months in the county prison with the sentence to begin Monday, Oct. 7, at 9 a.m. and received credit for serving 32 days in prison, and pay $50 to CJEA. On a charge of simple assault received a concurrent sentence. Kimmel was cited by Pine Grove Patrolman Christopher Robert Taylor.Timothy Owen Loftus, Pottsville, pleaded guilty to two violations of failing to install an ignition interlock system on the steering wheel of his vehicle which monitors if the driver has consumed alcohol and was sentenced to serve seven to 90 days in the county prison with the sentence to begin Thursday, Oct. 14, when he reports to the prison at 9 a.m. He must also pay $100 to CJEA. He was cited by West Mahanoy Township Chief Shawn Tray, and by Trooper Thomas Powell.Steven Eric Melsom, 45, Shenandoah, pleaded guilty to persistent disorderly conduct and was placed on probation 12 months, pay $50 to CJEA, and perform 10 hours community service. Melsom was cited by Shenandoah Patrolman Michael O'Neill.Beau Curtis Natale, 20, Pine Grove, pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance and sentenced to serve 29 days to 11 months in the county prison and since he served the minimum was released on parole. However, on a second count of possession of a controlled substance was sentenced to serve 12 more months on probation, pay $100 to SAE fund, $50 to Catastrophe fund, $460 to SMC, perform 10 hours of community service, pay a fine of $1,000, and his driver's license is suspended 12 months. Natale was cited by Pine Grove Cpl. Beau James Yarmush.Each defendant must also pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
