Country's Josh Turner at Penn's Peak, Thursday

Few religious songs make it big on the regular hit charts, but country star Josh Turner managed the feat with his recording of "Long Black Train."

The song is about finding "victory in the Lord" instead of riding the "long black train."Ten years ago, the song made it to number 13 on the country charts, and kick-started what has become a successful career for Turner. The personable bassist has charted quite a few records since then, including "Would You Go With Me," "Your Man," "All Over Me," and "Why Don't We Just Dance."Thursday night, Turner will be singing these hits as well as selections from his "Punching Bag" album, which was released in July of 2012, when he appears at Penn's Peak.Turner has had quite a few awards in the past decade including CMA's "Male Vocalist of the Year" in 2007, "Songwriter of the Year" in 2004 and 2005, and "Song of the Year" on four different occasions. The South Carolina native debuted on the Grand Ole Opry in 2001, singing his self-composed "Long Black Train." He received a standing ovation. The rest, as they say, is history.Tickets are available for the Josh Turner concert on Thursday at the Jim Thorpe venue. The concert begins at 8 p.m.Opening will be Ayla Brown.Tickets are $37 and $42.
