Slatington Elementary students sure know how to raise the roof.

As in sing, clap, and do the fist pump, which they did with an unbridled passion during an assembly Friday afternoon.Harlem Wizard team member David Paul greeted the students with a series of tape-recorded songs as they entered the gymnasium.Ramped up, and boisterous as ever, the students sang the words to the well-known contemporary songs without missing a beat.Paul then told the students he was going to put on a basketball show, complete with a demonstration that required not just any volunteer, but one in particular who boasted to Paul that he was a better basketball player than he.That student happened to be sixth-grader Dale Wanamaker, whom Paul pointed out in the crowd and asked to come up and join him.Eager to comply, Dale participated in a variety of shenanigans in which he was asked to duplicate basketball moves carried out by Paul, who proved to be a real crowd pleaser."It was a lot of fun and excitement," said Dale, 11. "All of it."For his efforts, Dale won a free ticket to see the Harlem Wizards take on the Northern Lehigh Bulldogs.The game will take place on Friday, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m. in the Northern Lehigh High School gymnasium. Doors open at 6 p.m.Ashley Fenstermacher, president of the elementary PTO, said she arranged to have the Harlem Wizard visit the school after she attended a PTO Expo in Philadelphia."This is our biggest event," Fenstermacher said. "It's to raise money and have fun."Similar assemblies were scheduled later in the day at Peters Elementary and Northern Lehigh Middle School, Fenstermacher said.
