A joint project of the Carbon Chamber and Economic Development Corporation and the Carbon County Art League is causing a buzz among the local artist community.

Every two months, four or five artists have been invited to showcase their work at the new chamber office. When the art is swapped out, the new artists are hosted at a business mixer at the chamber office."It give our office class," said Dawn Ferrante "It's a win-win for both of us. The artists have a way to showcase their work and we have this wonderful art work to show off in our office."The premise behind the ongoing art partnership that has developed between the Carbon Chamber and Economic Development Corporation and Carbon County Art League is that art can be part of the growth of Carbon County, said Linda Christman, a member of the art league who organized Thursday's event to welcome the upcoming artists and give the community an opportunity to meet the artists.The art work is for sale and members of the community are invited to view the work during business hours at the chamber office at 137 South St., Lehighton. For each piece that sells the CCEDC receives 20 percent of the proceeds."Showcasing the art of the Carbon County Art League gives people the opportunity to buy a beautiful piece of art," said Marlyn Kissner, of the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce."It shows this wonderful symmetry between the chamber and the art league."One artist was happy when one of her paintings sold.Margie Long sold a painting of a log cabin during the event.For additional information, call the chamber office at (610) 379-5000.The next business mixer and tour will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Oct. 3 at CTC Manufacturing in Beaver Meadows as a joint venture with the Hazleton Chamber of Commerce.
