SALISBURY TOWNSHIP - Last year, Salisbury's lone win of the season came against Palmerton on the Blue Bombers' home field.

While that certainly remained on the minds of the Blue Bombers and head coach Chris Walkowiak, the approach to Friday night's game against the Falcons remained much like any other opponent.After the Falcons got their first points of the game late in the fourth quarter and got to within just two, a pivotal drive with 1:39 remaining could have given Salisbury their first lead of the game. Instead, the Blue Bombers' defense rose to the occasion one more time.Pinned at their own nine-yard line, the Blue Bombers got enough pressure on Falcon quarterback Tevon Weber-who passed for 273 yards, but also had four interceptions-to jar the football loose in the end zone. With Jake Horn's recovery in the end zone, the Blue Bombers went ahead 16-8, a score they would go on to win by on Friday night at Salisbury High School, after another key defensive stand in the final seconds."We remember a lot of things from last year," Walkowiak said. "But last year is last year. We look at this year one game at a time, and we try winning every play. If we can win every play and everybody wins their play, then we think we can come out on top in a lot of games."Dominic Shivone came away with the last of Weber's four interceptions in the final seconds, as the Falcons were driving at midfield in search of the tying touchdown and two-point conversion.In all, the Falcons committed nine turnovers against the Blue Bombers, including a span of seven consecutive drives that resulted in a turnover."We preach that every week," Walkowiak said. "Football comes down to turnovers (and) not turning the ball over. And obviously getting them tonight, our defense responded in a big way, giving us life and bailing us out of trouble at times."The Blue Bombers were able to generate all nine of their second half points off Falcon turnovers. On the first play from scrimmage in the second half, Weber lost a fumble deep in Falcon territory, and the Blue Bombers were able to take over on their own 7-yard line. Although Walkowiak would've hoped for a touchdown, a field goal had increased the Blue Bombers' lead to 10-0 early in third quarter play.After junior running back Tre Nelson-who tallied 49 rushing yards in the first half-left the game because of an injury, it was freshman running back Mike Stasko's play that helped fill that void. Stasco finished with 93 yards on 23 carries.""He's got great vision and a great work ethic," Walkowiak said. "I'm happy he's in Palmerton [and] I'm happy he's in ninth grade right now."Following a scoreless opening quarter, senior quarterback Logan Lesher found freshman tight end Jared Mooney on the second quarter's first play for a 19-yard touchdown strike down the middle of the field, giving the Blue Bombers a 7-0 lead with 11:54 to play in the quarter.The Blue Bombers will host Saucon Valley next week. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
