Five first time offenders in the criminal justice system were placed in Carbon County's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition (ARD) probation program on Tuesday by Judge Joseph J. Matika.

If a person successfully completes all conditions of the program their record is wiped clean. However, if they fail to complete it, or are revoked from it, then they will face trial on all pending charges. A person does not admit guilt in entering the program.All were placed for a year, unless otherwise noted.Anthony Dabronzo, 22, of Egg Harbor, N.J., was placed on a charge of theft. He was arrested on Jan. 10, 2012, by state police at Lehighton for his part in theft of a snowboard, jackets, and two backpack bags at the Blue Mountain Ski Resort in Lower Towamensing Township.He was assessed $650 for the cost of the program, and ordered to get a drug and alcohol (D&A) evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, zero tolerance on D&A use, and render 50 hours of community service.Melissa Lombard, 30, of Scranton, was placed on a driving under the influence (DUI) charge. She was arrested on Jan. 1 along SR903 in Kidder Township by state police at Fern Ridge. Given a test, the result was .12 BAC.She was assessed $500 and ordered to get a D&A evaluation, render 50 hours of community service, and license suspended for 30 days.Susan Rose Martin, 55, of Weatherly, was placed on a DUI charge. She was arrested on Feb. 27 along Market Street by Nesquehoning police. Given a test, the result was .30 BAC.She was assessed $600, and ordered to get a D&A evaluation, render 50 hours of community service, and license suspended for 60 days.Jennifer Lynn Sloboda, 34, of Summit Hill, was placed on a simple assault charge. She was arrested by Summit Hill police for an incident on June 8 at 224 S. Chestnut St., with Mary Goodhile the listed victim. Sloboda and Goodhile are relatives.She was assessed $450, and ordered to render 50 hours of community service, and have no contact with Goodhile.Lewie Allen Zavitsky Jr., 19, of Lansford, was placed for six months on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested on March 30 by Nesquehoning police at Market Street and SR209.He was assessed $450, and ordered to render 25 hours of community service.Each defendant must also pay court costs, which average close to $1,000, and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while in the program.
