Two groups collaborate on Gilligan's Island

Local audiences will have a chance to experience an old classic taking on an all-new twist in September thanks to the collaboration of two non-profit groups.

"Gilligan's Island ... of Death" will be presented Saturday, Sept. 21 at Christ Church, known as the White Church, 132 Church Road, Tamaqua R.D.The event will be presented on behalf of Grier City Sunday School in conjunction with Lift Your Spirits Performing Arts."Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale, a tale of a fateful trip. In fact, it can get downright deadly," describes a news release issued by Grier City Sunday School. The play will present this scenario: you've just been shipwrecked on Gilligan's Island and help is most certainly not on the way.One of the seven castaways has just been killed and even the Professor is clueless.Don't worry, the Skipper and Gilligan are on the job, the Mosquitoes might pop by, and not even a murder will stop the Minnow talent show from being put together by Ginger and Mary Ann. With a killer on the loose, the competition is sure to be stiff. The performance is slated to begin with a 6 p.m. dinner.More information is available from Dan Thomas by calling (570) 590-2368 or Georgine at (570) 668-2748.

The cast of Gilligan's Island will be recreated in the Tamaqua area on Sept. 21 in a presentation on behalf of Grier City Sunday School. From left: Carl Altman, Zita Harner, Erik Searles, Dana Hartman-Beil, Jim Stepanchick, Lisa Broomell and Dan Thomas, Jr.
