Schuylkill crash leads to DUI count

A rear-end crash has led to one of the drivers involved facing a driving under the influence (DUI) charge. State police at Frackville said the accident occurred about 8:55 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 14, along SR4033, near Strawberry Lane, in Union Township.

Troopers said Kyla Petrachonis, 23, of Shenandoah, was driving a 2009 Chevrolet sedan northbound when she stopped to make a left turn into a private driveway.Her car was struck in the rear by a 2003 Suzuki sedan driven northbound by Ralph Gantz, 49, of Shenandoah. A passenger with Gantz, a female not identified by troopers, sustained a moderate injury and was transported to the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, for treatment. Gantz and Petrachonis were not injured. Gantz and his passenger were not wearing seat belts, troopers noted.Gantz was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was taken to the barracks where he submitted to a breath test. The test showed him over the legal limit, troopers said.He will be charged with DUI and summary offenses, troopers added.
