John L. Smith, 24, of 216 Owl Creek Road, Tamaqua, has been charged by Tamaqua police after he allegedly stole his mother's credit card.

Police were contacted about the incident on July 28 after the victim noticed the card was missing from her purse. The card was then used at an ATM at Fegley's Mini Mart, withdrawing $202 from the account.Video surveillance footage showed Smith using the card. When contacted by police Smith claimed he had permission to use the card for a dentist appointment. The mother disagreed telling officers she did not give her son permission to use the card.Smith was charged with credit card theft, theft by unlawful taking, and receiving stolen property.
