Truck rear-ends SUV in Hometown

A female driver was taken to the hospital after her car was rear-ended by a vehicle driven by a Coaldale man Sunday morning in Hometown. Emergency crews were called to the intersection of state routes 309 and 54 around 10 a.m. for a report of a two-vehicle accident. Rush Township police reported that Chris Smell, 46, of Coaldale, was driving a 2001 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck south on SR309, when he rear-ended a 2006 Jeep Liberty driven by Georgia Paul, 41, of Ashland, who was stopped at a stop light in the southbound lane. She was transported by ambulance to St. Luke's Hospital in Coaldale. Responding were firefighters from Hometown and Tamaqua. Also responding were Tamaqua Rescue Squad and ambulance and Lehighton ambulance. Hometown fire police helped direct traffic around the scene.
