CSCT presents 'Dames at Sea'

Carbon Schuylkill Community Theater presents "Dames at Sea" this weekend in Lehighton. The curtain rises at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2 and again at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3 at the Lehighton Borough Annex Auditorium, 110 N. Third St., Lehighton.

Set in the 1930s with the stock market crash under way and the pressure of the great depression beating down, a struggling production manager, Hennessey (Jim Cimms) gives the cast his all to make "Dames at Sea" a smash hit. This is easier said then done with Broadway starlet Mona Kent's (April Boyett) temperamental attitude and tap dancing pizazz. She runs the show! She does whatever she needs to in order to see her name up in lights. At first the cast suffers through her changing mood, but never underestimate your dance captain, Joan (Katie Evans) or the new chorus girl from Centerville, Ruby (Marissa Miller) as they may just take the show in a new direction. The tappy-toes of Ruby and Joan are partnered on stage with Dick (Josiah Behrens) and Lucky (Jonathan M. Rodgers) respectfully. These two dynamic duos sing, dance and propel "Dames at Sea" to the sea!Accompanied by the chorus girls (Brenda Fritzinger and Alexis Young) and with the splendor of Captain Courageous (Kevin Killian), "Dames at Sea" will float across the ocean aboard a U.S. Navy Ship. The cast includes minor doubling of roles such as: Killian as Wong, Young as Singapore Sue, and also includes Shirley Rodgers as Madame Sin-Sin and the costume assistant. The production is under the self direction of the cast and crew, lead by CSCT President Jonathan M. Rodgers.Musical direction and assistance has been provided by Rodgers and April Boyett. Audrey Christ is the accompanist. Jordan Behrens plays the drums."Dames at Sea" is written by George Haimsohn and Robin Miller; music is by Jim Wise. The show is produced under special arrangements with Samuel French Production Company."Dames at Sea" marks the celebration of the CSCT's fifth year performing in Carbon and Schuylkill counties.
