When Eric Schrantz graduated from Jim Thorpe Area High School in 1994, he had earned 10 varsity letters; four each in football and baseball and two in basketball.

Schrantz was the MVP during the 1993 football season for the Olympians. As a senior, he was an all-star and team captain at quarterback. During that campaign, he completed 92 of 193 passes for 1,375 yards and 11 touchdowns in the regular season, which led all area quarterbacks. He finished the year as a two-way first team selection at both quarterback and defensive back in the Mid-Penn Football Conference's Eastern Division.Schrantz's performance earned the Olympians a spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs, as the team finished with an 8-3 record. Individually, Schrantz's accomplishments earned him a spot in the Kiwanis Classic All-Star Football game, where he was named the MVP.Schrantz's achievements were not limited to the football field, as he was also honored at the Lehigh Valley Scholar Athlete Dinner for being ranked 20th out of 90 in his senior class.Schrantz started in the infield as a sophomore on the 1992 Olympian baseball team that won 19 games and captured the District 11 AA title. During his junior and senior seasons, Schrantz also excelled on the mound, going 5-2 and 6-2, respectively. The Olympians qualified for the district playoffs in both years, with Schrantz earning MVP honors during his senior season.In basketball, Schrantz scored 356 points, averaging 14.8 points per game as a senior. During his final year, Schrantz hit double figures in all but two of the Jim Thorpe's 23 regular season games, leading the Olympians to a 15-8 record and a spot in the District 11 AA playoffs.In 1994, Schrantz signed a letter of intent to play both football and baseball at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, where he played football for three years. Schrantz would later star for Kutztown's flag football team, leading the squad to the national quarterfinals and a number 21 ranking in 1997.After his athletic career was over, Schrantz went on to the Allentown Police Academy where he graduated with a B.S. in Criminal Justice. He is currently a police officer in Jim Thorpe, where he lives with his wife, Kriston and two sons, Brody and Landon.Schrantz will be inducted along with other members of the 2013 class, which include the 1987 Jim Thorpe baseball team, Erin Kennedy, Shawn Bradley and Joe Rader at the 24th annual Jim Thorpe Area Sports Hall of Fame banquet to be held on Saturday, August 17 at the Jim Thorpe Memorial Hall. Cocktail hour begins at 5 p.m. with dinner to follow at 6.
