West Penn Lioness

The West Penn Lioness Club met July 1 and presented a monetary award to the highest ranking West Penn graduate of the Tamaqua Area High School Class of 2013. Janelle Cinicola was the special guest and honoree. She is the daughter of Michelle and Brian Cinicola.TASD newsTamaqua Area School District students participating in sports and/or any extracurricular activity, or who have a school parking permit are subject to random drug and alcohol testing, as established in 2010. Random drug testing of non-participating students is also available if the district receives a parental request. Students must provide a signed parental consent form before participating.For the 2013-2014 school year, initial registration/testing will take place on July 31 in the athletic center locker rooms of the middle school. Male students may register from 8-10 a.m. and female students may register from 10 a.m. to noon. The band's performances include show tunes, marches, overtures and songs of yesteryear. The public is welcome to attend.Rain date will be July 31, same time and place.Bethany ECThe Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 a.m. traditional service this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. A contemporary service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Tamaqua YMCA. Sunday school is held at 9:15 a.m., at the church.Also on Sunday, the Christian education commission will meet at 11:45 a.m.; the operations commission will meet at 12:30 p.m.; and the outreach commission will meet at 1 p.m.Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, Playground Pals at 11:30 a.m. at the South Ward Playground; Wednesday, Waterside Whistle Stop at 2:30 p.m. at the Bungalow, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, musician practice at 8 a.m., praise rehearsal at 9:30 a.m.St. Peter's UnionThis Sunday's worship service for St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville, will be held at 10 a.m. at the West Penn Park. The service will include closing ceremonies for vacation Bible school and will be followed by a luncheon.The prayer group will meet at 4:45 p.m. next Thursday.
