Lehighton Community block party to be held this weekend

Fun for the entire family is planned at the annual Lehighton Community Block Party.

This three-day event kicks off this afternoon with live entertainment, games, homemade food, and more.Rain or shine, the block party is scheduled from 4 to 10 p.m. Friday, July 19; from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday, July 20; and from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, July 21. It will take place on Coal Street, between Third and Fourth streets, and in and around SS. Peter and Paul School, 307 Coal Street."All proceeds support SS. Peter and Paul School," said Principal Sherry Sernak. "Our school has been providing quality Catholic education to preschool through eighth grade students for 128 years."Activities for children will include games provided by Games 2 U, including a human hamster ball, laser tag, and video games. In addition, there will also be a bounce house for children."Games 2 U's human hamster ball was such a huge hit at our Oktoberfest, we brought them back for our annual block party," remarked Sernak.For adults, the annual Lehighton Community Block Party will host various activities as well as a beer tent.Local cover band Boomerang will perform from 7-10 p.m. Friday. A.D.D.Additional activities include a soap box derby, the Lehighton Idol Contest with cash prizes, and the "I Don't Want to be a Duck" Race."Our soap box derby has quickly become our most popular event at the block party," Sernak said.The first race begins at noon Saturday.There will be homemade food available..Coal Street between Third and Fourth Streets will be closed during this three-day event.
