An elderly Slatington area man was struck by a car Wednesday evening and killed.

State police at Bethlehem said the accident occurred in Heidelberg Township about 6:15 p.m.Troopers said James M. White, 71, of 4973 Mountain Road, was pronounced dead at the scene by Chief Deputy Coroner Paul F. Hoffman of Lehigh County at 7 p.m. The cause of death was listed as multiple traumatic injuries.The accident occurred near White's home along Mountain Road. Lorie A. Hughes-Rehrig, of Kempton, was driving eastbound when she hit White, who was walking south across the road.The accident scene is about three miles west of Slatington. The investigation into the incident is continuing, troopers added.
