Rockin' Rescue event stresses to spay, neuter and adopt

Members from both Carbon County Friends of Animals and the Animal Shelter of Carbon County came together over the weekend to host their third annual Rockin' Rescue event at the Lehighton Park.

The event consisted of over 30 vendors, most related to pets and animal care. In addition, visitors enjoyed free music entertainment from multiple bands. Organizers estimated over 500 visitors, to include some from other states, took part in the event."We hold the event as a networking resource and educational event. There was something for everyone," said event organizer Donna Crum, who serves as Carbon County's Cruelty Officer. "I can't stress enough the importance of people to spay, neuter and adopt.""I had a great time," said visitor Molly Ebbert of Lehighton, who said she came out to support the animals. "This event teaches the importance of caring for animals.""It is great to see events like this," said Kelly Heffley."These types of events offer very important pet care resources to the community," added her husband Representative Doyle Heffley. "Hats off to our four-legged friends.""We look forward to next year's event," said Crum, who added her appreciation to all the visitors, vendors, participants and supporters.

Lehighton patrolman Bruce Broyles talks to Kate Scott, of Friends of Pep Border Collie Rescue, while petting "Sweetie". Scott said Sweetie was thrown of a truck and her organization is caring for her until she recovers.
